Workshop: Continuous Improvement for Sustainability and Growth

In order to develop a truly world-class, efficient and sustainable enterprise, it is necessary for leaders to create a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Defence organisations worldwide are applying Lean concepts and tools to improve operational effectiveness and benefit from the cost savings that are generated.

The Skills and Workforce Division of the Defence Teaming Centre is hosting this half-day workshop.

Based around the production of helicopters for the Defence Forces, it has been developed for senior staff as an introduction to the principles, tools and culture change that drive a Lean Enterprise.

The session focuses on:
1) Practical solutions to operational problems
2) How these can be solved by changes in thinking
3) Providing an interactive simulation to introduce Lean thinking and facilitate "learning by doing"
4) Introducing the principles of flow, pull and error-proofing
5) Identifying soft skills of management required for successful change
6) Providing an overview of the commonly used tools, such as Value Stream Mapping, Visual Management, Standardised work, 5S, Kanban and Quick Changeover.

This session will be facilitated by two Continuous Improvement (Lean) experts, who are security cleared and have worked in the Defence space.

It will give you an insight into why the Lean approach, developed over many years by Toyota, is now spreading throughout the Australian Defence Forces and the Defence supply chain.
