RAAF seeks US Growlers?
05 Sep 2008
Australia is talking with the US about acquiring up to six electronic attack EA-18G Growlers which accompany strike aircraft in attack missions and suppress enemy air defence radars and other location and tracking sensors.
At this stage the conversation is government to government and no firm plans are in place. If the Growler is to be acquired by Australia, the order would most likely come from the 24 Super Hornets already on order, ADM understands.
Deputy Chief of the Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Brown, has discussed Growler with US government officials but a decision is not expected before the forthcoming Australian Defence White Paper is issued.
