24 Jul 2008
EADS displayed its A310 air refuelling test bed at the Farnborough airshow. The aircraft was used to develop the state-of-the-art fly-by-wire boom now fitted to the RAAF A330-200 tanker and planned to be delivered to Australia early next year.
BAE Systems started the show with bad news after Singapore said it had eliminated the Hawk from its new jet trainer contest.
Selection is now between the Korean T-50 and Alenia Aermacchi M346.
BAE says it is to develop an upgrade program for the Hawk which was prompted by an Australian proposal to upgrade its aircraft.
