The Indian Navy (IN) has delayed the dispatch to Russia of 40 naval personnel for training in the Russian-built Akula I-class submarine Nerpa following a fatal incident on 8 November 2008.
Twenty sailors and technicians died and 21 others were injured after a fire-extinguishing system malfunctioned, releasing freon gas into two compartments in the bow of the 9,100-tonne boat during trials in the Sea of Japan.
Reconsidering
India's move to send its Navy personnel to train aboard the Akula I-class submarine Nerpa has been delayed.
