The F-35 system development and demonstration (SDD) flight test remains on or ahead of plan for 2011, despite losing 15 days of testing after a ground mishap involving the Integrated Power Package (IPP) and natural disasters affecting the US Navy’s Patuxent River flight test centre.
By September the F-35 had completed 642 flights for the year and was eight per cent ahead of its planned program; it also successfully completed static structural testing, achieving one of five milestones established by the Joint Program Office for 2011.
Overall, this year, F-35A jets have made 314 test flights; F-35B aircraft have completed 226 flights; and F-35C carrier variant jets have made 102 test flights.
