The DMO and a host of industry companies have been recognised for outstanding teamwork and excellence in project management at the annual Australian Defence Magazine (ADM) Awards Dinner on 21 February 2012.

Major companies and Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) along with their DMO counterparts were nominated in four different categories;

  • Major Acquisition;
  • Minor Acquisition;
  • Sustainment/Logistics Support Activity; and
  • Rapid Acquisition.

These teams were then considered for two additional awards - the most outstanding Major Company/DMO team and SME/DMO team of the year.

Also honoured on the evening were the companies that headed ADMs Top 40 Defence Contractors, ADMs Top 20 Defence SMEs and ADMs Top 20 ANZ Defence SMEs.

The Australian Industry and Defence Network (AIDN) use the event as well to announce the winner of its AIDN National Young Achiever Award. In 2012 the award has been won by Dugald Harland from CEA Technologies for his part in developing a three-dimensional radar.

And the winners were…

Essington Lewis Trophy – Major Company/DMO Team of the Year
ASMD Project Office, BAE Systems, Saab Systems and CEA Technologies.

Essington Lewis Trophy – SME/DMO Team of the Year
Ground Telecommunications Systems Program Office (GTESPO) and Daronmont Technologies.

Major Acquisition
ASMD Project Office, BAE Systems, Saab Systems and CEA Technologies - A collaborative Defence and Industry effort in 2011 got the Anzac Class Anti-Ship Missile Defence (ASMD) project back on track and off the Projects of Concern list. Strong relationships between all team players delivered a highly capable system to the Royal Australian Navy.

Minor Acquisition
Tactical Aircraft Systems Program Office and Cirrus Real Time Processing - Under Air Force Minor 1002, this industry company and DMO team provided an interim upgrade to the Airborne Navigation Trainer and Synthetic Navigation Trainer. This solution was delivered on time and to budget, managed risk appropriately and utilised Australian intellectual property.

Sustainment/Logistics Support Activity
Ground Telecommunications Systems Program Office (GTESPO) and Daronmont Technologies - Through a strong collaborative relationship, Daronmont Technologies and GTESPO made a significant contribution to the Mobile Control and Reporting Centre Reconstitution and Sustainment Support Activity.

Rapid Acquisition
Land Self Protection System Program Office (LSPSPO) and Micreo - Utilising innovative risk management measures and Australian technology, this project was able to deliver a complex solution to reduce the threat Improvised Explosive Devices pose to the ADF.
