States are encouraging defence industry to apply for their respective Premier's Export Awards, with a specific Defence Industry category being included for the first time in 2017.

NSW Trade and Industry Minister Niall Blair said the state is developing a reputation globally as a defence innovator thanks to enterprising exporters across the State, including the Hunter, Illawarra, Shoalhaven, Riverina, Northern NSW and Capital regions.

“I’m pleased to see the defence industry will feature in the Premier’s Export Awards this year as it’s a crucial sector that strengthens our economy, particularly in regional areas.

“The Defence and Industry Strategy launched earlier this year demonstrated how important this sector is to the NSW economy and the achievements of our defence sector need to be recognised.”

Applications officially close on 14 August 2017 with finalists to be notified in September. Winners will be announced at an awards presentation dinner on 25 October 2017 at the Star in Sydney.

Winners in the National Award categories will go on to represent the State at the Australian Export Awards National Ceremony on 5 December.
