Third generation family-owned specialist in outfit accommodation services to the marine industry, Taylor Bros, has been selected by Navantia for design of accomodation  spaces for the F-5000 Future Frigate program bid.

Commencing this week, a Taylor Bros team has been embedded into Navantia Australia’s design and production teams for the Sea 5000 program. The Integrated Product Team will identify feasible solutions to meet the mixed messing requirements for the Future Frigates and scheduling of work.

Taylor Bros commercial director Phillip Taylor said the team was looking forward to working with Navantia to develop innovative ways to make shipboard life easier.

“We have become a specialist in outfit accommodation services to the marine industry and have developed a prefabrication approach to projects for defence that enables delivery on time, and within budget.”

In 2009, Taylor Bros was awarded a contract worth more than $25 million with the Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) project to supply Outfit Accommodation products. In 2013 another contract was awarded to install the supplied Outfit Accommodation materials and equipment into the AWDs. That comprised supply of metal joiner bulkheads and doors, modular sanitary spaces, galley, servery, scullery, refrigerated spaces and laundry equipment, the fabrication of ship’s furniture and the design and prefabrication of berthing spaces, sanitary spaces, mess rooms, offices and meeting rooms.

In 2012, the company was awarded contracts to supply and install furniture and equipment to BAE Systems for Zone 8 and the Medical Spaces of the Navy's two Landing Helicopter Docks (LHDs) now in service. The company turned 80 in 2016, having commenced operations on the Derwent River in 1936.

Navantia Australia MD Donato Martinez said Taylor Bros’ familiarity with Navantia’s naval designs and strict design criteria enables efficient integration of cutting edge solutions seamlessly into the F-5000 design.

“Having both teams working in the same digital environment brings all the manufacturing knowledge to the design process; this allows Navantia Australia to design while minimising supply chain management, planning and production costs from Ship 1.”

An announcement on the tender for the $35 billion Sea 5000 program is expected before mid-year.
