ADM DMO/Industry team of the Year Award for Excellence 2008

Entries for the 2009 ADM DMO/Industry team of the Year Award for Excellence are now closed, unless arrangements have been made with the Awards Co-ordinator.

The Essington Lewis Trophy, commemorating the man who got Australia's World War II defence production on the go, is awarded to the Defence and Industry teams of the two best-managed defence projects of the year - the top project in partnership with a major company and the top project in partnership with an SME.

The awards also honour the top Australian defence companies which appear in ADM's annual listing of the Top 40 Defence Companies and the defence industry's Top 20 Small to Medium Enterprises (SME) as seen in the December/January edition.

Winners from the 2008 Awards

ADM's annual industry conference was held in Canberra on 17-18 February 2009 at the Hyatt Hotel.

The ADM conference is a pivotal event in the Defence/Industry calendar each year.

A highlight of the event was the  ADM/DMO Defence/Industry Awards dinner held at the National Press Club.

The ADM 2009 Congress Awards dinner provided a chance to recognise a range of project teams within DMO and the Defence industry who had shown high levels of capability, cooperation and project management prowess.

Essington Lewis Trophies
Essington Lewis Trophies for excellence in collaboration with DMO are awarded in two categories each year: one to a major company and one to an SME. The trophies are named in honour of Mr Essington Lewis, Australia’s great wartime industrial leader.

ADM’s Top Defence Contractor and Top Defence SME
ADM Managing Editor Judy Hinz presented certificates to BAE Systems Australia as the no.1 defence contractor in Australia while health services provider (and Australian-owned) Aspen Medical took out the SME category.
BAE Systems Australia, following its acquisition of Tenix Defence Systems, is Australia’s first billion dollar defence company.

AIDN names National Young Achiever

Winners from the state competitions gathered in Canberra for the ceremony hosted by Head of DMO's Industry Division Kerry Clarke.
WA state winner Aidan Morgan of Thales Australia was announced as AIDN National Young Achiever of the Year.
The AIDN Young Achiever Award recognises the important contribution made by young people working in the defence industry and is designed to encourage talented young people who are the key to the future of the defence industry. The Award is to be bestowed on the young individual identified as having performed in the most outstanding manner within the defence industry.
The finalists were:
* AIDN-NSW: Doug Lampe of Aerospace and Mechanical Consulting;
* AIDN-Qld: Neil Miller of Pizzey's Patent and Trademark Attorneys;
* AIDN-WA: Aidan Morgan of Thales Australia; and
AIDN-Vic: George Mawal of C4I.
