The speaker will be LTGEN Peter Leahy AC, former Chief of Army.
During his presentation LTGEN Leahy will draw on his experiences as an officer in the Australian Army and the insights he gained into command, leadership and management from platoon level to his six-year membership of the Defence Committee.
He will discuss the difference between leadership (doing the right thing) and management (doing things right).
Using his experiences of the Australian Army on combat duties around the globe he will discuss how everyone has the potential to be a leader and how they can become better leaders.
Peter Leahy retired from the Army in July 2008 after a 37-year career as a soldier.
As an infantry officer the focus of his career was with soldiers in command, training and staff appointments.
During his tenure as Chief of Army, LTGEN Leahy was responsible for the rapid expansion and development of the Army to enable it to cope with the many changing demands of modern conflict.
His focus was to provide a hardened and networked force with increased adaptability and flexibility.
Since leaving the Army he has joined the University of Canberra as the foundation Director of the National Security Institute.
He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has been appointed to the Boards of Codan Pty Ltd and Electro Optic Systems Holdings Limited.
He is a member of the Defence South Australia Advisory Board and is a Director of the Kokoda Foundation.
