Austal has delivered the first of two Cape-class Patrol Boats for the Royal Australian Navy, the Australian Defence Vessel (ADV) Cape Fourcroy, from its Henderson shipyard in WA.

The two 58 metre patrol vessels are to be chartered by the Commonwealth on behalf of the RAN, which awarded the $63 million contract to Austal in December 2015.

ABF Cape Class vessels Cape Byron and Cape Nelson were transferred to RAN service in July and October 2015 respectively when the loss of Armidale-class patrol boat HMAS Bundaberg in a dockyard fire coupled with the structural remediation program for Navy's Armidale-class patrol boats made it difficult for the service to meet its patrol requirements under Operation Sovereign Borders.

Cape Fourcroy and her sister Cape Inscription, which is expected to be delivered next month, will address this availability shortfall.
