The UK Ministry of Defence’s (MoD’s) core process for acquiring armoured vehicles resulted in delays and cancellations that will leave serious gaps in requirements until 2024/2025 at the earliest, a report from the National Audit Office (NAO) has found.
In ‘The cost-effective delivery of an armoured vehicle capability’, published on May 20, the NAO identified a range of failings in the department’s approach to acquiring armoured vehicles, meaning that despite more than GBP1.1 billion (USD1.16 billion) of expenditure since 1998, “only a fraction” of principal armoured vehicles were delivered.
