NTP Forklifts Australia has recently delivered three Manitou MHT780 units to the Royal Australian Navy.

These heavy duty telescopic handlers are expected to be used on the RAN’s new LHD Amphibious Assault ships

The Manitou MHT780 units were chosen due to their multi role capability and will be used in a wide array of operations including general ship maintenance, container handling, landing supplies on beach heads, towing of water craft and earthmoving duties.

This is just a selection of actual roles that the Manitou telehandlers may be in engaged in.

The units have been delivered with a wide array of attachments and options to allow for these and other duties to be performed on demand without any major configuration changes.

Some of these features include:

  • side shifting fork positioner;
  • jib; and
  • bucket and work platform

They have also been fitted with a high level of flame proofing, front and rear air brakes and 3B6 load handling system to ensure they meet recommended safety requirements with their operations.

The Australian Army is also trialling three of Manitou MHT780 units to assess the improvements in operation handling efficiencies that they expect to achieve with their multi role capabilities.
