Minister for Defence Materiel Dr
Mike Kelly has announced the opening of the first of two funding rounds for
the 2013-14 financial year.
Funding of up to $9 million is available in Round One of the Skilling Australia’s Defence Industry
(SADI) Program.
The program aims to increase the quality of existing workforce
skills and the quantity of skilled workers available to Australia’s defence
industry.
“The SADI Program will boost the skills of defence industry
workers by financially assisting Australian-based defence companies to
participate in eligible training and skilling activities including
apprenticeship supervision support, Masters level academic programs and short
courses focused on technical and professional skill sets”, Dr Kelly said.
“The program will continue to boost Australia’s defence industry
skills base by enlarging the pool of qualified engineers, technicians,
tradespeople and project managers.
“I am particularly pleased to announce that additional flexibility
is continuing to be introduced to the program to streamline its administration
and overall efficiency.
“Applicants are able to bid for activities taking place at any
time during the financial year in this first round. I urge companies to take
advantage of this opportunity.”
Over $12 million will be available to fund eligible activities in
the 2013-14 financial year, with up to $9 million available for Round One. The
remainder, plus any funds unspent in Round One, will be available in a second
round.
The first round of applications for SADI funding for 2013-14 will
close at midnight (AEST) Friday May 31, 2013.
