Today is November 30, 2015 and that means that all the responses to the Commonwealth’s Competitive Evaluation Process (CEP) are due in.

The 10-month process has had a relatively short but highly commented life so far. To recap, all three contenders (TKMS of Germany, DCNS of France and the Japanese government in partnership with Mitsubishi and Kawasaki) will have delivered a range of information encompassing three build strategies; completely overseas in their respective home yard, a hybrid build between their home yard and Australia and a purely Australian build.

The CEP at this time is also seeking the broad technical details of the program along with rough order of magnitude costing for each build strategy. As ADM has mentioned before, this is almost a beauty pageant developed to pick a design partner going forward.

As mentioned in DWP last week, ADM understands that a joint decision on the preferred design partner and combat systems integrator will happen mid-next year. Until then, best of luck to the industry teams involved in these CEPs and to Defence’s project team who have a lot of heavy intellectual lifting ahead of them.
