John Davis has been appointed as the new CEO and Future Submarine program director for Naval Group Australia, effective 1 July 2018.

Davis will lead Naval Group through the ongoing delivery of the Future Submarine Program, including the design and build of 12 submarines for the RAN and the design of a new submarine shipyard at the Osborne Naval Shipbuilding precinct in South Australia.

Davis has previously worked for Raytheon Australia, the Air Warfare Destroyer Alliance, BMT Defence Services and the UK Ministry for Defence.

"After a comprehensive search process, the Board is delighted John has agreed to lead Naval Group Australia into its next stage of growth,” Jean-Michel Billig, executive vice president of the Future Submarine program, said.

“John has a track record of strong leadership and this, combined with his deep industry knowledge and strong customer focus, makes him uniquely qualified to lead the organisation successfully into the future."

Brent Clark, who has served as interim CEO, having been with the company for almost all of its three years in-country, will become special advisor to the chairman. Jean-Michel Billig will replace Clark as interim CEO until 1 July.

Clark stepped in as CEO following the resignation of Sean Costello in March 2017. Costello himself resigned less than a year after Naval Group won the Future Submarines contract.

ADM understands that Billig is based in France and has no plans to move to Australia at present.
