QinetiQ Australia has appointed Rear Admiral Ian Murray (retired) to its Advisory Board.

Rear Admiral Murray brings extensive experience from across the Australian Defence Force (ADF) following a 40-year career. He has held a number of senior leadership appointments, including Head of the Australian Defence Staff and Defence Attache in Washington DC, Acting Chief of Joint Capabilities and Commander Joint Logistics.

“QinetiQ Australia has established a strong reputation for delivering trusted engineering, test and evaluation and mission solutions that strengthen Defence capability. I’m excited to work with the Advisory Board and Leadership Team to support the company's continued growth and its contribution to Australia's sovereign defence capability, particularly in the Maritime domain," QinetiQ Australia Advisory Board member, Ian Murray, said.

As a senior Defence leader, Rear Admiral Murray delivered major capability and logistics initiatives across Defence and ensured support to Defence operations in Australia and overseas.

Most recently he was on the frontline of strengthening Australia's defence partnership with the United States, with a particular focus on AUKUS implementation, export control reform and supporting Australian defence industry.

Since retiring from the ADF, Rear Admiral Murray has continued to support Australia's defence and national security sector through a range of advisory and governance roles.

“Ian brings a deep understanding of Defence, with a focus in the maritime domain. His experience supporting complex Defence operations and delivering strategic transformation will provide valuable insight as QinetiQ Australia continues to grow its role in helping customers solve some of their most complex challenges," QinetiQ Australia, Chief Executive, Corry Neale, said.

"Australia's maritime environment is becoming increasingly complex, driving demand for advanced technology, trusted advice and sovereign capability. Ian's experience will be invaluable as we continue to grow our support to Defence, helping deliver capabilities the ADF needs for the future."

Set up in September 2024, the Advisory Board serves as an external, independent, voice representing QinetiQ’s capabilities within the defence industry, government, and related areas.

Murray, along with Board members Tony Fraser, Margaret Staib, and Stephen Loosley, provide strategic advice and analysis to support QinetiQ’s growth and the company’s ongoing delivery of advanced test and evaluation, engineering and mission-critical services to the ADF and national security partners.
