The minister for defence, Dr Brendan nelson, has opened the new Joint Electronic Warfare Operational Support Unit (JEWOSU) at Defence Park Edinburgh.

This $20 million redevelopment is an investment in Australia's ability to provide truly world-class electronic warfare support to the ADF, Nelson said. It is further recognition of JEWOSU's vital role in providing world class operational support services to the ADF and is the next stage in the continuing evolution of the RAAF's Aerospace Operational Support Group (AOSG) at RAAF Edinburgh. JEWOSU was formerly knows as the EW Squadron of the ADF's Aircraft Research & Development Unit (ARDU)

JEWOSU is a critical, tri-service electronic warfare support unit that is part of the RAAF's Information Warfare Wing and which contributes significantly to the mission effectiveness and survivability of Australian Defence personnel deployed on operations in aircraft, ships and submarines around the world.

The building is highly innovative in its use of space and represents the cutting edge in terms of fusing JEWOSU's electronic warfare development and support elements into a single effective capability.

Delivered on time and built within its allocated budget, the facility provides an additional 5000m2 of essential floor space, which will accommodate growing staff numbers, together with the additional reprogramming and test equipment necessary to support the introduction into service of new aircraft and new ships.
