Babcock Australasia has announced the appointment of Richard Udall as Managing Director – Mission & Support Systems.

In his new role, Udall will be responsible for leading Babcock’s Mission & Support Systems (M&SS) portfolio, which comprises programs such as Australia’s Enhanced Defence High Frequency Communications System (EDHFCS), Australian Defence Force Ground Support Equipment (GSE), Collins Class submarine weapons system sustainment, New Zealand Fixed High Frequency Radio Refresh, and Counter – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (C-CBRNE) equipment.

“We are delighted to welcome Richard to Babcock’s leadership team," Babcock Australasia’s CEO, David Ruff, said.

“Richard’s appointment will strengthen the delivery of the important work we do for our customers and the communities we serve across Australia and New Zealand.

“The programs that sit within Richard’s portfolio form an important part of Babcock’s corporate strategy and ambition for further growth in the region.

“I’m excited to see Richard take this portfolio of work to new levels, drive growth for our business, and lead the delivery of critical work and operational excellence within the M&SS suite of programs.”

Udall’s appointment builds upon experience leading and delivering complex programs, most recently as the Strategic Surveillance Program Director at BAE Systems Australia where he has led a portfolio of sovereign and US export High Frequency Over The Horizon Radar programs.

“Babcock has a clear strategy and ambition for growth. This, coupled with the focus on its core principles, creating a positive organisational culture, and work environment for its people was a key attraction for me,” Udall said.

“This is an exciting time to be in the industry. Customers are looking to industry for increased levels of service and early delivery of critical capability to support the changing geopolitical and operational environment. This will require us to think differently, work closely with our customers to develop innovative solutions, and deliver them in a more agile way. The need for change has never been greater and I am looking forward to ensuring Babcock is at the forefront of this journey.”
