The Latrobe Valley Defence Profile has been established with support from the Australian Defence Alliance Victoria (ADA) to showcase the engineering and manufacturing capability of industry in the Latrobe Valley, east of Melbourne.

The Valley has a history of engineering, with coal-powered electricity plants, open-cut mines, oil and gas exploration, and paper manufacturing all taking place in the area. It is also the home of Mahindra Aerospace, the only commercial aircraft manufacturer in Australia, and RAAF Base East Sale. The regional hub of Latrobe City contributes $4.78 billion to the Victorian economy.

“In support of the transition of the region’s businesses into the burgeoning defence industrial base, that the ADA and the Latrobe City Council have established a partnership demonstrating the commitment of both organisations to ensuring the continued growth and success of one of the nation’s most skilled engineering hubs,” ADA Victoria said in a statement.

“Through this partnership, 21 Latrobe Valley Regional businesses have joined the ADA(Vic) network to highlight and promote the deeply experienced capabilities resident throughout the region.”

The listed companies in the Profile include: ADRA Group, which supplies Rheinmetall, BAE and Boeing; Gippsland CNC Cutting, which supplies Lendlease (the prime responsible for the Air 5428 build at RAAF East Sale); Hardchrome Engineering; Prometheus Group; Safetech STS, which provides vertical transportation and dock equipment for RAAF; Vincent Paints, which is also involved in the East Sale build, and more.
