After a four-year COVID-induced delay, the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) Exhibition will once again be held on the Malaysian resort island of Langkawi in May.

Show organisers Alpine Integrated Solution launched LIMA 2023 during a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur on 16 January and confirmed that the event will be held between 23 and 27 May. Among the exhibitors at this year’s event will be Team Defence Australia, which will showcase Australian industry on the international stage.

“I can confidently say that this year’s LIMA is set to be the largest one yet,” announced Tan Sri Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman, Chairman of Integrated Solution at the launch.

“Among the organisations exhibiting this year from the local front include BHIC, Deftech, Gading Group, Global Turbine Asia, NADI, Radimax, Sapura, System Consultancy Services and Zetro; whilst some of the international players include Airbus, MBDA, Kongsberg, Naval Group, Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), Team Defence Australia, Aselsan, Roketsan and Havelsan.”

Unique for its combined aerospace and maritime focus, Adib said he expects 600 exhibitors to present their wares at LIMA 2023 and, for the first time, cybersecurity, drones and space technology will feature prominently.

Malaysia’s Defence Minister YB Dato Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hasan said at the launch that in a rapidly changing world, threats to national, regional and global security have become more complex.

“Not only do we need to contend with traditional security challenges, but we also need to consider non-traditional security threats, such as extremism, terrorism and piracy,” he told invited guests.

“The regional security situation that has developed over the past year shows that enhancing cooperation is more important than ever. This has made LIMA all the more significant.”
