Airbus Defence and Space and South Korean defence and technology company RF Systems have signed a cooperation agreement during the Seoul ADEX 2023 exhibition, to provide air defence training support to the Republic of Korea.
RF Systems will be the prime service provider, delivering turnkey solutions for Air Defence training using Airbus Direct Target drones.
RF Systems will also provide services such as flight scenarios planning, launch site and ground control set-up, certifications and approvals for the drone operations, target drone flights as well as material disposal.
Using Airbus’ latest all-purpose target drone Do-DT45neo, the Army, Air Force and Navy units of the Republic of Korea can simulate aerial threats in realistic scenarios, and combat them with live fire, in support of their air defence training.
The Do-DT45neo can fly at speeds of up to 240 m/s (Mach 0.7). It also offers high manoeuvrability with a load factor of 6G, enabling the drone to perform escape manoeuvres and therefore to replicate air threats more realistically in the training scenarios.
To date, Airbus has produced more than 2,100 aerial target drones for use in live firing exercises conducted by its global defence customers.
