Established in 1985, its 1900-plus staff offer a depth of design, project management, supply chain, construction and engineering experience and expertise that is unparalleled in Australia’s defence industry. ASC built the country’s Collins Class submarines, sustains them, is delivering their Life of Type Extension, and has been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build nuclear-powered submarines in Australia. It also plays a leading role in training Royal Australian Navy submariners.

The company built the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) six Collins Class submarines, sustains the fleet and is now delivering the Collins’ Life of Type Extension, adding 10 years to each boat’s service life.
In March 2024, ASC was selected as Sovereign Submarine Partner for the Australian Government’s nuclear-powered submarine program. ASC will sustain all nuclear-powered submarines in Australia, including visiting US and UK boats, and will jointly build Australia’s SSN-AUKUS fleet in an incorporated Joint Venture with BAE Systems.
