Ultra Electronics has won a multi-year contract totalling over $21 million from submarine maker General Dynamics Electric Boat Corp to build naval power supply systems.

The contract is for the production of naval computer controlled power supply systems (Circuit-D) with deliveries over the next five years.

The Circuit-D system was first designed in 1997 for the new Virginia Class Submarine program and is considered a critical electronic system for the platform, the group explained in a company statement.

The FTSE 250-listed firm designs shipboard power conversion equipment for submarines and surface ships and has designed and manufactured hundreds of systems for navies worldwide including the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, Spain, and Korea.

"This important contract recognises Ultra's specialist power management systems and supports a key US Navy submarine program. The priority the program receives is a reflection of the importance of the "pivot to the Pacific" spoken about by the US Navy," Ultra's chief executive Rakesh Sharma said.
