The Australian community has the opportunity to shape the Royal Australian Air Force’s centenary activities which will occur in 2021.
Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Leo Davies officially launched Air Force 2021 during a ceremony in Canberra this morning. Speaking at the event, he said it was important for the Australian community to be involved.
“The first stage of planning for Air Force 2021 is our consultation phase. We are inviting ideas and suggestions from across Australia to consider how we should mark this important milestone,” AIRMSHL Davies said.
AIRMSHL Davies said Air Force had a strong history, and an exciting future. “From our modest beginnings in 1921, we have grown into a potent, world class Air Force which Australia relies upon in both conflict and peace.”
“Australia’s air power began with the Australian Flying Corps in World War I. Since then, generations of Air Force men and women have provide outstanding service to this nation in conflicts across the globe, including World War II, Korea, Malaya, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq.
“I have just returned from visiting some of our people currently deployed in the Middle East. I am really proud of what we are achieve there; as well as our personnel deployed to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan and Operation Resolute.
“There is so much to be proud of in Air Force’s first century, and as an organisation we have an exciting future, - as we implement Plan Jericho and introduce more next generation platforms into service.”
The consultation period runs until 20 March 2016. Submissions will be considered against a range of criteria including value for money, safety, and the creation of enduring effects. Contributions can be made at www.airforce.gov.au/RAAF2021
