Broadspectrum has launched the Puckapunyal Youth Employment Partnership Program, providing students with learn valuable skills transferrable to any industry and the opportunity to gain an insight into the Defence working environment.
The program in Seymour, Victoria, is in partnership with the Central Ranges Local Learning and Employment Network (LLEN) and local schools and is designed to create opportunities and pathways that enhance the education and employment for young people in the Seymour and Puckapunyal region.
Students from GOTAFE, Seymour Flexible Learning Centre, Seymour College and St Mary’s College will have the opportunity to work with our Defence services contracts at Puckapunyal to gain work experience.
“This is an exciting program,” Broadspectrum’s Site Supervisor at Puckapunyal, Faye D’Helin, said. “Through the program, the students will also learn about the career opportunities available at Broadspectrum by participating in site tours, career expos, work experience, apprenticeships and school-based apprenticeships to help them transition from school to work. I look forward to working with them.”
Chair of Central Ranges LLEN, Michelle Bradley welcomed the initiative in engaging with the Seymour community and opening up new pathways for work experience, entry level employment and career development at the Puckapunyal Base.
“The activities involved in this program will provide local students and young people with the chance to make informed decisions about their future careers and educational pathways,” she said.
“Through the wide range of activities on offer, students will gain an understanding of what requirements are involved and therefore decide if they want to pursue that industry or not. Our research shows that student exposure to a range of workplaces and industries leads to much better employment outcomes and connections with their local community. Furthermore, this program introduces them to the wide-range of opportunities available within Broadspectrum and on the Defence Base Services contract in particular. It’s a great local jobs initiative.”
Broadspectrum aims to extend this initiative to contracts in other regions to further increase pathway opportunities for local youth in the community.
Broadspectrum delivers Defence Base Services including estate upkeep and land management, hospitality and catering, aircraft refuelling and firefighting services and has a Land Materiel Maintenance contract to maintain military vehicles for the ADF.
