Northrop Grumman has received a $124 million award to provide personnel for expanded operations of Counter-Rocket, Artillery and Mortar (C-RAM) sense-and-warn systems in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Australian Defence Force’s C-RAM system continues to prove itself since beginning operations in Tarin Kowt in Afghanistan on December 28, 2010.

Earlier this year ADM reported that the system was successfully enhancing force protection to the troops providing 24 hour, 360 degree protection at the multi-national base.

Major Shillabeer OI/c C-RAM-1 said the Australian C-RAM works in conjunction with other Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets such as the American tethered aerostat surveillance system and Australia’s Scaneagle UAV, allowing coalition forces to respond to any insurgent threat.
