Australian Aerospace and Cablex have signed a multi-year contract to provide qualified labour to Australian Aerospace during assembly of MRH90 helicopters in Brisbane.

The skilled crew will install electrical harnesses to strengthen the MRH90's functionality.

"The strong relationship we have developed with Cablex is a reflection of Australian Aerospace's commitment to support skills development and small to medium enterprises, while creating an industrial footprint in the country," Dr Jens Goennemann, CEO Australian Aerospace, said.

"Australian Aerospace is Australia's only helicopter assembler and is working with the Australian Government to strengthen the nation's defence capabilities."

Mr Michael Zimmer, Managing Director Cablex, spoke proudly of the milestone.

"Provision of installation services is in line with Cablex's strategy to achieve growth through vertical
integration."

In the frame of the Australian Industry Capability program developed for MRH90, Cablex is under contract with Eurocopter for its global supply chain needs related to the manufacture and supply of electrical harnesses for the NH90 (the international variant of the MRH90) helicopters.

For the Australian variant, these harnesses are being delivered to the Final Assembly Line at Australian Aerospace's Brisbane facility.

In a phased approach, Cablex has deployed nine qualified Certificate IV Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AME).

The technicians have successfully gained certification to Eurocopter installation procedures.

Cablex personnel will work alongside Australian Aerospace workers to deliver the MRH90 to the Australian Defence Force.

Cablex will also actively participate in Australian Aerospace's implementation of lean manufacturing.

Cablex is currently working with Australian Aerospace and Eurocopter to extend the program's scope to provide support services involving repair, rework, modification and through life support.
