The US Department of State has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to the Government of Lithuania for AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II Missiles and related equipment. The approximate total cost is US $214 million (approx. A $299 million).
Lithuania has requested to buy an additional 152 AIM 9X Block II Sidewinder tactical missiles; eight AIM-9X Block II tactical guidance units; six AIM-9X Block II captive air training missiles; US Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support that will be added to a previously implemented case whose value was under the congressional notification threshold.
The original FMSs case, with a cost of US $19.5 million (approx. A $27.2 million) (US $10.5 million (approx. A $14.7 million) in major defence equipment (MDE)), included 16 AIM-9X Block II Sidewinder tactical missiles; two AIM-9X Block II tactical guidance units; training; weapon system support; training aids and devices; spare parts; and other related elements of logistics and program support.
This notification is for a combined total of the following MDE items: 168 AIM 9X Block II Sidewinder tactical missiles; ten AIM-9X Block II tactical guidance units; and six AIM-9X Block II captive air training missiles.
The following non-MDE items will also be included: training; weapon system support; training aids and devices; spare parts; US Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support.
The principal contractor will be RTX Corporation, located in Arlington, Virginia.
