Systematic has delivered their SitaWare Battlefield Health system to the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr), which forms the basis of SAFES (Sanitätsdienstliches Führungs- und Einsatzsystem), the Bundeswehr’s medical command and control system, supporting the coordination of medical evacuations throughout operations.
The software solution was demonstrated to the Bundeswehr Medical Command yesterday, marking a further milestone in the digitalisation of the German Armed Forces’ medical service. SitaWare Battlefield Health is an add-on to Systematic’s SitaWare Suite; its C5ISR software used by NATO and more than 50 nations to plan and manage military operations.
Within the German Armed Forces, SitaWare is planned to be implemented across all domains. Battlefield Health adds a medical component to the Mission Enabling Service Bundeswehr (MESBw) software ecosystem, designed to support command and control at all levels. The programme was first announced in October 2025.
The solution will cover the entire tactical chain of evacuation. At the tactical level, patients are initially documented, transport requests handled and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) missions coordinated. At the command level, emergency medical data, patient management and tracking come together in a Recognized Medical Picture (RMedP). Integrated into the common operational picture, the system provides information on resource requirements and availability, supporting operational planning and reporting. In practice, this supports continuity of care by ensuring everyone involved, from the casualty collection point to admission to a Medical Treatment Facility, works from the same up-to-date information. The software will use the Bundeswehr’s existing infrastructure and command and control systems.
"In national and collective defence, the chain of evacuation decides whether the force can sustain itself," Sven Trusch, Managing Director of Systematic's German subsidiary said. "Coordinating it in the same system as tactical command is the result of a collaboration in which we worked on the solution together from the very start. That approach can be applied to other digitalisation programmes."
