Work has begun on the construction for the Base Redevelopment Stage 1 project and upgrade works to accommodate C-17 aircraft operations into RAAF Base Pearce.
More than $142.2 million will be invested in the redevelopment through new construction and refurbishment works to update and enhance critical aged dysfunctional infrastructure and facilities.
In addition to the redevelopment, upgrade works valued at $12.6 million for the introduction of the C-17 aircraft will be delivered concurrently as part of the C-17 Heavy Air Lift Infrastructure project.
The scope of works includes upgrading the base engineering services, a new fuel farm, a new fuel quality control centre, upgrade of an aircraft maintenance hangar, a new engine run-up facility, a new combined mess, new living-in accommodation facilities, upgrade of the air movements facility and pavement works for current base air movements and for the introduction of the C-17.
The Base Redevelopment Stage 1 is expected to be completed by early 2012.
