SeaVision Technologies, a division of Newcastle-based ATSA Defence Services, has supplied its Seaeye Falcon Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) to be used in a new training course for ROV pilots at South Australia's Underwater Training Centre.
ROVs are unmanned robotic vehicles that operate under water or on the sea floor.
Since the introduction of the ROV, the offshore oil and gas industry universally embraced this technology and has been largely responsible for its rapid evolution.
Other ROV applications include submarine structural inspection, ship hull inspections, dam and water supply infrastructure, defence, underwater security, aquaculture, pipelines and submarine environmental monitoring.
The Underwater Training Centre course covers all the requirements of the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA), providing graduates with a nationally recognised ROV pilot's certification.
Students will be trained in the use of a Seaeye Falcon, a system that comprises an ROV with its launch and recovery equipment, power supply pack, operator's console and display monitors.
As well as the Seaeye Falcon, SeaVision Technologies markets and supports the AC-ROV, a complete system that weighs just 18kg and designed for one person to deploy in less than three minutes.
Certified for use in applications that include offshore, onshore or down pipes, it is claimed to be the safest and quickest tool for underwater inspection.
