BAE Systems has been selected to provide a range of Air Traffic Control (ATC) operational maintenance services to the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

BAE Systems will conduct operational maintenance for key ATC equipment and simulators at two ADF airfields - Oakey (Queensland) and East Sale (Victoria) - under a five-year performance-based contract valued initially at AUD $6.4 million.

The ADF currently operates a range of ATC equipment at airfields around Australia.

The new contract seeks to rationalise operational maintenance for this equipment into a single, flexible, performance-based arrangement that will simplify support arrangements and deliver greater efficiencies.

Under the contract, BAE Systems' Joint Business Unit will provide operational maintenance for:

- Oakey airfield:
- Australian Military Airspace Control Communications System (AMACCS)
- Australian Defence Air Traffic System (ADATS)
- Alenia radar system
- Doppler VHF (Very-High-Frequency) Omni-directional Range (DVOR) navigation aid
- Instrument Landing System (ILS)
- Miscellaneous systems

- East Sale airfield:
- ADATS simulator
- Tower Visual Simulator Suite (TVSS) ATC tower simulators

BAE Systems will be required to achieve and maintain Authorised Maintenance Organisation (AMO) status for the duration of the contract.

The new contract commenced on 21 October 2009.
