Compass wins $190 million defence contracts
New Defence contracts for garrison support and comprehensive maintenance services valued at $190 million will boost the economy around Defence bases in the Sydney Central Region, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Senator Sandy Macdonald announced on 11 April.
"Today, I am pleased to announce that a significant portion of these contracts will be invested back into businesses in local communities around Defence bases in the Sydney Central Region and also into the general employment market," Senator Macdonald said.
"Compass Group (Australia) Pty Ltd, trading as ESS Support Services Worldwide has been selected as the contract provider for the provision of Garrison Support Services and Defence Maintenance Management for the provision of Comprehensive Maintenance Services".
Compass Group and Defence Maintenance Management will use local providers and suppliers in the Sydney Central region for garrison support and maintenance services at Defence facilities in and around central Sydney.
Compass Group (Australia) Pty Ltd will provide a wide range of base support services including hospitality and catering, waste management, security and cleaning. Defence Maintenance Management, a joint venture between Multiplex Facilities Management Pty Ltd and John Holland Construction and Engineering, will provide a range of facilities maintenance services. Both contracts are for an initial period of five years.
"Today's announcement will ensure we sustain the quality of base support services to the Australian Defence Force now and into the future," Senator Macdonald said.
The five-year contracts have a combined value in excess of $38 million per year and replace previous contracts for these services. This is the fifth in the series of a planned eleven regional contract re-tendering activities to be conducted by Defence.
These new contracts are expected to commence on 1 May 2006.
