New Defence houses in Townsville

Minister for Defence Science and Personnel Warren Snowdon has announced that the new Defence Housing Construction Program is underway in Townsville as part of the Nation Building and Jobs Plan.

"The Nation Building and Jobs Plan means an investment of $31.8 million in Defence homes in Townsville," Snowdon said.

In total, from July 2008 through to June 2011, Defence Housing Australia (DHA) will now build 453 homes in Townsville.

Eight local building companies have been pre-selected to complete the new constructions and the formal contracts will be signed in the next few months.
