The 2025 edition of the biennial Australian International Airshow is the 16th in the series and is set to be the most successful yet, according to AMDA CEO Justin Giddings.
Avalon 2025 will open its doors to trade representatives between Tuesday 25 March and Thursday 27 March and the public will be able to view the displays from 28 to 30 March.
“It will be a big week. Starting off with the trade days and exhibitions, we expect to host 902 participating companies, that’s a 13 per cent increase on Avalon 2023, and 2023 was a 50 per cent increase on Avalon 2019,” Giddings said. “Avalon 2025 will also host 290 delegations, an increase of 20 per cent.
In addition, Giddings said that around 350 aircraft will be on display. A careers day, to be held on Friday 28 March, will host 7,500 Victorian secondary and tertiary students.
The Airshow was formally launched by Defence Minister and Member for Corio, Richard Marles.
“From the perspective of Defence, this is a really significant event, as Justin said, there will be 900 exhibitors - which is the biggest gathering in relation to airpower trade shows,” Marles said.
“In combination with the air show is the Chief of Air Force Symposium occurring on Monday (24 March) and will be hosted by our Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Steve Chappell and we’ll have 20 Chiefs of Air Force from around the world.”
“That’s the biggest gathering of Chiefs of Air Force that’s occurred in Australia, and it’s always done in combination with the air show.”
Flying display highlights during Avalon 2025 will include RAAF FA-18F Super Hornets and F-35A Lightning II fighters. The US Pacific Air Forces’ will also feature the Lockheed Martin F-22A Raptor and – possibly for the last time at Avalon - F-16C demonstration team.
