Bird Aerosystems (Bird) has secured a contract to supply its advanced SPREOS Directed Infrared Countermeasure (DIRCM) systems for the Helicopter Upgrade Program in the Asia Pacific Region. The contract is allegedly worth tens-of-millions-of-dollars according to the company.
“This large-scale deal together with the strategic cooperation reflects the global strategy we have been driving since joining BIRD, to further strengthen the company’s positioning as a world-leading self-protection systems provider,” said Matan Perry, VP Marketing & Sales at BIRD Aerosystems. “Supplying protection systems to one of the world’s most advanced militaries represents a significant milestone for BIRD," Co-CEO and Founder of BIRD Aerosystems, Ronen Factor, added.
The contract was awarded as part of an international tender to protect the helicopter platform. Under the agreement, Bird Aerosystems will cooperate strategically with a local defence company, including a comprehensive transfer of knowledge and local production of a localised DIRCM configuration.
“It is a great privilege and honor to win such an important international DIRCM tender in the Asia Pacific Region. This contract reflects the strong confidence placed in our advanced technology and proven operational capabilities. It marks another key step in BIRD’s global growth and reinforces our position as a trusted provider of advanced airborne protection solutions. Through our strategic partnership, I am confident this program will pave the way for continued success in the region and open additional opportunities across international markets," Factor stated.
As part of the program, dozens of SPREOS DIRCM systems will be supplied to the program’s prime contractor.
SPREOS is Bird's patented DIRCM solution designed to protect aircraft against missile threats. According to the company, the system has the ability to detect, track, and confirm incoming threats, providing protection against MANPADS. SPREOS has the ability to integrate with a wide range of missile warning systems.
In addition to the supply contract, the agreement has established a long-term strategic partnership aimed at expanding industrial cooperation and strengthening both domestic production capabilities and global market reach in advanced airborne self-protection technologies.
The contract will cover dozens of helicopter platforms in the Asia Pacific region.
