The US State Department has approved the sale of the P-8A Poseidon to Singapore.
The sale also includes MK 54 Lightweight Torpedoes and related equipment for a total estimated cost of $2.316 billion.
Singapore has requested to buy up to four P-8A patrol aircraft; seven Guardian laser transmitter assemblies for the AN/AAQ-24(V)N system; seven system processors for the AN/AAQ-24(V)N system with selective availability anti-spoofing modules; and eight MK 54 MOD 0 lightweight torpedoes all up rounds.
In September last year, the Singaporean Ministry of Defence announced its intention to purchase four P-8As to replace its fleet of Fokker-50s, which have been in service since 1993.
Boeing is the prime contractor for the P-8A sale whilst the torpedoes will be sourced from US Navy stock.
