Cyber Command has celebrated its first birthday with a ceremony in Canberra on March 26, which has recognised its contribution to the defence of the nation.
“Conducting cyberspace operations is warfighting in networks – both in ours and in our adversaries,” Commander of Cyber Command, Major General Robert Watson, said.
Cyber Command was officially activated on 25 March, 2024, with the intention to deliver the transformational change required to meet the increasingly complex challenges within a contested, congested and competitive cyber domain – the fifth warfighting domain.
“The cyber domain is not geographically bound; it cuts through and operates equally across the other domains,” Command Warrant Officer of Cyber Command, Warrant Officer Class 1 (WO1) Delwyn Jones, stated. “Cyber Command plays a significant role in supporting multi-domain operations and safeguarding national security by enabling the ADF’s warfighting networks. It provides workforce and capability to support the ADF in understanding and countering threats in the cyber domain.”
It has been a year of constant evolution for Cyber Command to remain ahead of the challenges and opportunities present in the domain that has no geographical boundaries.
