The International Centre for Complex Project Management (ICCPM) has been awarded $498,280 from the Skilling Australia’s Defence Industry (SADI) Grants Program for its project 'Skilling Australia’s Defence SMEs to Manage Complex Projects.'

The project will deliver specialist training in complex project management to 227 project managers, engineers, and other project professionals from ICCPM’s Organisation Members. In turn, this project will support the improved performance of complex defence projects.

This is the first time that project management has been included in the list of skills eligible for SADI funding, reflecting a growing awareness within Defence of the need for highly skilled project professionals to achieve the objectives outlined in the Defence Industrial Capability Plan.

“ICCPM is thrilled to be able to be able to help Australian SMEs build their organisational capability in the delivery of complex projects and position themselves to deliver higher value projects," Collin Smith, ICCPM Managing Director & CEO, said.

The project is being delivered in collaboration with Team Downer MSP. Through its Corporate Partnership with Team Downer MSP, ICCPM aims to support the organisational development of a number of defence sector SMEs during and beyond the SADI funding, and support the application of skills to defence projects.

“Team Downer values our partnership with ICCPM, and we are very pleased that we were able to collaborate on the grant application to facilitate access to a range of ICCPM member benefits to refine and expand the capability of the defence sector SMEs that we work with," Chris Lovejoy, Team Downer General Manager, said.

The Skilling Australia’s Defence SMEs to Manage Complex Projects will deliver specialist training in complex project management to 227 senior project professionals from a number of defence sector SMEs including consultancy JLB-Yaran.

“JLB-Yaran is very appreciative of Team Downer and ICCPM’s partnership to deliver professional development opportunities for Australian SMEs," Hayden Surrao, JLB-Yaran Managing Director, said. "Their commitment to ensuring Team Downer’s trusted supply chain benefits from the Federal Government’s SADI grant is a testament to Team Downer’s continuing support of Australian SMEs. JLB-Yaran’s Consultants will attend ICCPM events throughout 2021 which will strengthen our capability to support complex CASG Programs and ensure our workforce is developing for Defence’s future requirements.”

The participating companies include three SMEs servicing defence from the Australian space sector.
