No doubt our readers will have seen the news that in the early hours local time on 24 February, Russian forces began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on the orders of President Vladimir Putin.
As a defence-focused media organisation, it’s important that I share with you ADM Group’s editorial strategy as this tragedy unfolds.
ADM Group primarily covers current and planned defence acquisition projects in Australia and New Zealand, defence policy (and especially defence industry policy) and defence/aerospace industry developments in those two countries. As such, rolling coverage of the invasion of Ukraine is outside our area of editorial focus and expertise.
However, ADM Group's coverage also extends further – most often to Asia – where stories are of interest to the Australasian defence community or of major geopolitical significance. A war in Europe is certainly of major geopolitical significance.
Therefore, ADM Group will watch events in Ukraine closely and look to publish stories and analysis in the coming times that might inform Australian defence strategy and preparedness. After all, the ADF is currently being equipped for the possibility of combat against a peer competitor - perhaps one with similarly revisionist views of history.
First and foremost, though, our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine.
