The Whiskey Project Group (TWPG) has partnered with Colombia’s state-owned shipbuilding authority, Corporación de Ciencia y Tecnología para el Desarrollo de la Industria Naval Marítima y Fluvial (COTECMAR), through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
"This strategic partnership with COTECMAR not only reinforces our commitment to delivering advanced, fit-for-purpose maritime solutions, but also affirms the global competitiveness of Australian sovereign defence innovation and advanced manufacturing," Chief Executive Officer of TWPG, Darren Schuback, stated. "Through this collaboration, we aim to strengthen the operational capability of the Colombian Armed Forces and support broader regional security and stability across Latin America."
This collaboration will facilitate technology transfer and joint manufacturing of next-generation tactical watercraft, with an initial focus on equipping the Colombian Navy and extending capability offerings across broader Latin American markets.
"Our collaboration with TWPG is fully aligned with COTECMAR’s mission to modernise Colombia’s naval capabilities through innovation, co-development, and international partnership. This MOU marks a vital step forward in the evolution of our defence industrial base and our ability to project advanced maritime solutions throughout the Latin American region," President of COTECMAR, Vice Admiral Luis Fernando Márquez, asserted.
This initiative is set to deliver watercraft tailored for the Colombian Navy and allied forces, while hoping to catalyse deeper economic and strategic engagement between the Indo-Pacific and Latin American regions.
