Working Spirit, an organisation looking to raise awareness of veteran employability to private business, last year launched the Women Veteran’s Employment Network Australia (WOVEN).
“Female veterans have a comprehensive and broad range of leadership, diversity and team development skills. They are an extremely well-educated group,” the organisation says. “Post military career they remain committed to education and learning, either excelling in like industries or retraining to take on new careers. They understand the importance
of dedication to service and work life balance, reinforcing that their principles are entrenched in a strong work ethic based on trust, loyalty and respect.”
The initiative was founded by Karen Hinder, who cites her ADF background for providing her with the confidence and skills for post-service employment.
The initiative is supported by Minister for Defence Linda Reynolds.
“Female veterans have much to offer Australian employers,” Minister Reynolds said. “They are highly qualified and experienced and ready to make significant contributions in the private sector.”
