Alelo is a developer of advanced learning products for cross-cultural communication skills.
It creates immersive 3D ‘serous games', in which players use their foreign language skills and knowledge of a foreign culture.
Alelo's game worlds are populated with non-player characters that engage in spoken conversation with learners, utilising Alelo's patented conversational artificial intelligence technology.
The US military makes extensive use of Alelo courses for predeployment training for personnel deploying to Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries.
Alelo has also developed a similar suite of courses for use by allied military forces.
The new enterprise licensing arrangement gives members of the ADF full access to these allied military training courses.
Gold licences will allow the ADF to obtain operational language and culture training for areas that may not be currently identified.
The ADF is also taking steps to upgrade its existing licences for Alelo products to Gold licences.
Over the coming months the Army Simulation Wing of the ADF plans to contract with Alelo to adapt these courses for Australian use.
Game characters will wear Australian uniforms and will conduct missions typical of Australian overseas military operations.
Under the terms of the agreement Alelo will install copies of the courses at computer-based training facilities across Australia.
Individual military personnel will also be able to download courses onto their own computers, for individual self-study.
