The Aerospace and Defence Support Centre – Amberley (ADSC-A) continues to be a priority aerospace and defence project for the Queensland Government with a number of activities planned for 2012.
Work is underway on the master plan and business case which will enable the Queensland Government to make a decision on future investment in the site in early 2013.
In January, a team led by KPMG, including Parsons Brinkerhoff and Suters Architects were awarded the master planning and business case contract.
2012 key activities for ADSC-A includes
- Site contamination remediation and validation assessment is progressing.
- WSP Environment and Energy have completed their sampling, analysis and quality plan, environmental management plan, health and safety plan and communication plan for state land. Site investigations have been delayed for three months due to inclement weather. WSP will commence remediation activities as soon as site conditions improve.
- Detailed design of the western interim intersection of the ADSC-A site to the Cunningham Highway has been completed.
- The procurement process for legal services has recently commenced.
- Property valuation of Defence land for purchase and leasing is nearing completion.
As for the master plan and business case, KPMG will undertake a four phase work plan to prepare the master plan and business case:
- phase 1 – project definition and objectives
- phase 2 – preliminary evaluation and review
- phase 3 – site technical investigations and master planning
- phase 4 - business case.
Having nearly completed phase 1, KPMG is reviewing the existing preliminary evaluation, testing the commerciality of the existing preliminary master plan, and investigating staging options.
Plans for early 2013 include, the master plan and business case are expected to be completed and submitted for government consideration.
The government will then make an informed decision regarding future investment in the proposed ADSC-A project.
