Aurecon’s Defence team has won new work providing base engineering assessments on the condition, capacity and compliance of electrical, gas, ICT, hydraulics and fuel farm services for major properties across the Defence estate.

David Barnes, Aurecon’s Industry leader – Defence, said: “This win is a fantastic opportunity as it brings together the key skills of our Defence and Asset Management teams to solve a prevailing problem encountered by the Defence Support Group.

“The average age of the facilities and infrastructure of Australia’s Defence bases is increasing and an integrated approach to assessing the condition and capacity of key services infrastructure is an excellent course of action for Defence.”

The Defence Support Group sought the assistance of industry experts through a competitive tender process; seeking innovation, value for money and technical expertise.

Barnes continued and said: “This win is very significant as we have the opportunity to innovate and set the standard for how base infrastructure engineering assessments are conducted and reported on.

“Our client is seeking a new way of doing business, and we welcome the opportunity to work with Defence and assist them with this new program of integrated assessment.”

The program of assessments will be conducted in an initial stage of three bases throughout the 2nd half of 2011, with the potential to expand to an additional four bases following ‘proof of concept’ of the initial stage.

The initial bases to be assessed include RAAF Base Williamtown; HMAS Albatross; and Lavarack Barracks.
