Byron Walpole from Austal was announced as the national winner of the 2011 Australian Industry & Defence Network (AIDN) Young Achiever Award at the ADM2011 Congress awards dinner in Canberra in mid February.
In introducing the national finalists the AIDN National President Graham Priestnall said “that although they came from diverse backgrounds within the defence industry, each displayed outstanding qualities in their profession and are a credit to themselves and their employers”.
The other national finalists were:
• Emilio De Stefano, BAE Systems Australia, DTC (AIDN-SA)
• Adrian Thearle CEA Technologies, AIDN-ACT
• Aaron Thompson Ferra Engineering Pty Ltd, AIDN-Qld
• Ashley Tuck, QinetiQ Pty Ltd, AIDN-Vic
The annual Young Achiever award was created to recognise the important contribution made by young people in Australia’s defence industry.
The award is held at the State and Territory level with winners competing for the national award.
All finalists come to the ADM Congress and receive tickets to the D+I conference.
The national winner is also awarded the chance to take part in the DMO’s Defence Industry Skilling Course (DISC) during the year.
