South Australia’s Defence Teaming Centre (DTC) has been successful in winning a significant aggregated bid, on behalf of 30 of its member companies (seven primes and 23 SMEs), for 495 training places in the 2010 Productivity Places Program for Existing Workers allocation round.
This funding has been provided through the joint Commonwealth and Government of South Australia’s Productivity Places Program that provides a subsidy of up to 90 per cent for Vocational Education Training qualifications.
The program, administered by the Department for Further Education Employment Science and Technology (DFEEST), has allocated approximately $28 million of funding across the state in this round of applications, providing 18,490 training places to up-skill existing workers within the state.
The DTC share of the program in the 2010 round is just under the $2 million mark.
The DTC has been successful in previous applications for Productivity Places funding, securing 80 places on behalf of 5 member companies in 2008 and 192 places for 11 member companies in 2009.
This successful bid represents partnerships with 18 Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) for the delivery of training places at Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma level qualifications across areas including business skills, manufacturing, electronics and aviation.
The DTC believes that, through the success of their Existing Worker 2010 application, it is contributing significantly to the achievement of the State’s strategic objective to grow the SA defence industry workforce to 28,000 by 2013.
