HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has launched the third offshore patrol vessel destined for the Philippines at its shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea.

The 'Raja Humabon' is the third 2,400-ton Philippine offshore patrol vessel, equipped with a 76mm main gun, 30mm secondary guns, search radar and electro-optical equipment. It will be delivered to the Philippine Navy in February 2027.

80 officials attended the launch in Ulsan, including HD Hyundai Heavy Industries President Joo Won-ho and Philippine Navy Chief of Staff Jose Ma Ambrosio Ezpelleta.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries delivered the first Philippine offshore patrol vessel five months ahead of schedule and will deliver the fourth through sixth ships by 2028.

The company has a significant body of work in the Philippines, including four frigates, two patrol ships, and six offshore patrol ships, as well as export orders for Peru and a steady drumbeat of work for South Korea.

HD HHI was shortlisted for Australia's Sea 3000 program, which was eventually awarded to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

Its shipyard in Ulsan is the largest on the planet and is capable of building 20 ships simultaneously, and 50 ships per year. In 2024, the company opened two additional drydocks – numbers four and five in the Ulsan shipyard – to the Naval and Special Ships business, which allows HD HHI to build or maintain up to eight naval surface ships per year.
