John Holland has been awarded the contract to deliver the $112m Robertson Barracks Defence Logistics Transformation Program (DLTP), Works Package 4 for the Department of Defence in the Northern Territory.

As part of the project, John Holland will develop 340,000m2 of Robertson Barracks to provide 11 new buildings totalling nearly 50,000m2, 67,000m2 of pavements and a 2.2km access road.

Group managing director, Glenn Palin, said the awarding of this contract confirms John Holland as a contractor of choice for Defence.

“John Holland’s relationship with Defence goes back more than 60 years, with our work at the Robertson Barracks in the Northern Territory extending back to the early 90s,” Palin said.

“It is this experience that enables John Holland to undertake complex and challenging building and engineering works on live, fully operational Defence bases, on-time and on-budget, without disrupting critical activities and services.”

Executive general manager for Infrastructure, Chris Evans, said the 18 month construct only project is planned to commence in May 2013.

“At the peak of site works the project workforce is expected to reach 120 people,” he said.

The Defence Logistics Transformation Program (DLTP) is one of the key reform initiatives from the 2009 Defence White Paper, and is the vehicle for delivering the reform to Defence’s wholesale logistics network.  The DLTP Works Package 4 will consolidate Joint Logistics Unit (North) to a new green-field site at Robertson Barracks to reduce its facilities footprint at RAAF Base Darwin.  John Holland is also working on the DLTP program in NSW.
